Men Going Their Own Way (MGTOW)

MGTOW is best epitomized by self-ownership and affirmation that men have the right to decide what their goals in life should be. Men who profess to be MGTOW are those that live unapologetic lifestyle. Such men have decided not to have kids or even a wife in their life. Nobody can state with certainty about the age demographics of MGTOWs. The brutal reality is that no study has been done to establish if the movement is composed of a youthful or even an older generation. There are however no exceptions with joining the movement.

Paul Elam,a men’s rights activist gives the best definition so far of MGTOW. According to him, MGTOW is an unavoidable social phenomenon that holds credence to avoiding the dictates of gynocentrism and the rebellion over the institution of marriage.Paul has the testicular fortitude to affirm further that, “Whether we like to admit it or not, we live in a culture which sees women as the ultimate authority in some very personal ways. Women can, if allowed by weak men, decide where men eat or even sleep.” Basically, men walking on eggshells. Men have nobody to blame but themselves. Perhaps, this is one of the many reasons for MGTOW.

Undoubtedly,the MGTOW movement is not a new phenomenon. It goes back to antiquity as best evidenced in, “The Age of the Bachelor”. However,efforts to reject gynocentrism received a backlash by the likes of Hilda Holland who considered ‘MGTOW’ as lacking maturity, sadistic and having insufficient moral baring. There were even extreme measures by feminist activist such as Mrs.Charlotte Smith which advocated for exclusion of bachelors from employment in prominent public sector positions. At the time (19^th century), men were forced to marry under the confines of the law and church. Failure to do so,they were considered inferior and isolated for denying the gynocentric culture.But still, men resisted. In 1898, a group was formed with the aim of keeping at bay the movement formed by Charlotte Smith and other feminists that required men to wed. The motto of the group was Solomon’s proverb: “It is better to live in a corner of the housetop than with a brawling woman in a wide house.”

At the present, MGTOW have completely abolished the thought of marriage. Emphasis is on men transmuting their sexual appetites into more ‘productive’ endeavors.Women are never a first priority for such men. Men focusing on their mission and purpose in life should in fact be the state of affairs. The man any woman wants is one that focuses on his grind and does not shower her with all the bs including but not limited to texting her all the time and even putting her on a pedestal.Unfortunately, society has taught men that this is what women want. Since human beings are naturally designed to pair bond, my take is that men can only be MGTOW for certain parts of their life. For this to happen, biased laws have to go. Indeed, men and women are like two feet, they need each other to move forward. Nonetheless, what constitutes a real MGTOW is subject to debate.
